Cosmonauts (Burger, Fullerton CA)
"Swirling, distorted psych, bulldozed along by pounding primitive drums, fuzzed out vocals, all glued together with a heavy spaced out guitar drone. If that ain't the ingredients for record of the month my name is Prince Bloody William. Imagine if you will the best of THEE OH SEES jamming deep with MOON DUO, with the aid of some sort of retro type drug that only Brace Belden knows the name of and you would almost be right on the money. Heavy, without losing one single hook, repetitive without being the least bit boring and shamelessly stepped in the glory years of acid rock without being a boring regurgitating hipster. Be warned, this record will give you a contact high." - Maximum RockandRoll

Young Moon (record release)
San Francisco-based brooder Trevor Montgomery might work as a tile setter by day, but at night he crafts chilling synth-pop inspired by a troubled childhood — and the John Hughes movies in which he sought escape — as Young Moon. On "Wind’s Light," a cut from Navigated Like the Swan (due July 24 on Western Vinyl), Montgomery splays a heartbroken baritone atop twinkling synths and a ramshackle beat, pleading for love with the sort of dead-eyed abandon of someone who once knew better. - SPIN

Danny Paul Grody
Grody populates his second solo LP with airy acoustic guitar and subdued instrumentation, but the strummed guitar and synth riffs on the opening track place a certain haze or feel over the remaining proceedings. Grody immediately establishes the ambiance of the album, which steers the listener towards a specific experience of his following tracks.
Ultimately, Grody’s album offer peaceful, transcendent ambiance. Despite the changing arpeggios, lines, and instrumentation, Grody’s attitude and approach succeed in offering a serene recording. - Foxy Digitalis

Vestals
'Forever Falling Toward the Sky' is the first ever release by Bay Area based Vestals, AKA Lisa McGee. A taught set of haunting electric ballads, these six tracks weave together a number of layered guitars and vocals into a smokey tapestry of blown electricity. Rather than the ephemeral drones McGee has been involved with recently, most notably the group-mind ensemble Portraits & the duo Higuma, Vestals retains the clarity of song, with these hypnotic gems having been slowly carved out over a year of recording & mixing. Filled out with drum machine & bass, 'Forever Falling Toward the Sky' really does have the feeling of a group completely jelled, hammering out feedback in a California basement, high on guitar worship & sunsets. - Root Strata
